How to Improve Your Scrabble Skills

improving scrabble skillsAside from using a Scrabble helper to improve your Scrabble skills, there are also a few things that you can do prior to playing to help yourself out. Scrabble is a board game that involves not only strategies, but also anagramming, math and wordplay. Although having fun while playing already makes you a winner, racking up the wins will give an unexplainable feeling of euphoria. That said, making yourself a master of the game doesn’t happen overnight – it needs a lot of patience, practice and effort to do so. Here are some steps and tips that you should highly consider doing:

Step 1: Play other games, especially those with words

There are other word games available for download in the Internet. Most people play Scrabble on their computers and smart phones, as well as other games like Words With Friends and Lexolous which are much like Scrabble. Text Twist is also one of the best anagramming games out there – you might have already played this fun and mind-straining game.

Aside from word games, you should also try to play board games like Chess and Checkers, to help you learn strategy. Remember, despite being a game of words, you can’t win with words alone in Scrabble!

Step 2: Expand your vocabulary

If you have a rich vocabulary (and know how to use it depending on the situation), then you’ll definitely go far in the game. How do you do so? Well, your best bet is to read. It doesn’t matter if it’s a novel, a short story, comic or a magazine, as long as you’ll be able to put words into your mind.

If you want a more straightforward approach, read the Scrabble dictionary and not the various English dictionaries. Remember, there are some words in the English dictionary that cannot be found in Scrabble’s and vice versa. Aside from learning complicated words, also remember to learn about usable ones, including two to three letter words containing hard consonants like Z, X, Q, and J. Remember though, even if your vocabulary bests the literary giants, it would be useless in Scrabble if you don’t know how to use it.

Step 3: Practice, practice, practice

Nowadays, you don’t need a friend or a companion to play against – just download a Scrabbke application into your device and play against the computer (AI opponents) or other anonymous people. Practice using the words you’ve learned and employ the strategies and tactics that you’ve learned from the pros. Scrabble is like a sport – if you constantly work on improving your game, you will definitely go a long way.

Step 4: Learn from the professionals

There are a lot of resources on the Internet where you can learn the strategies and concepts surrounding the game. Although using a Scrabble cheat may seem bad, it is an integral learning tool used by some professionals in order for them to see the best opportunities and options in every game. There are guides written by veterans and tournament champions online: be open minded and look them up on the Internet.

Just remember, try other games, expand your vocabulary, practice and learn from the pros. You’ll definitely rack up the W’s in the long run!
