Sometimes, short Z words in Scrabble can prove to be our lifesaver, especially if it happens to be your last turn. The letter Z, along with J, Q and X, can be your biggest hurdle in the game, especially if you’re not fully equipped with words that contain it. Having said that, the letter alone can score 10 points – put it in a bonus square and you’ll definitely earn huge points that can certainly cause a big difference in the game. So, what are examples of short words with Z that can give you a big advantage?

Three letter Z words

There’s only one Z two-letter word: Za, which is a slang for the word, pizza. It may be hard to think of a three letter word with the letter Z right now, except for the word “zoo”. You may need the following words in the future, so be sure to keep them in mind all the time:

• Adz

– also spelled adze, this word has Old English origins and is defined as a tool similar to an ax. It is used to shape and cut large pieces of wood – and gives 12 quick points in Scrabble.

• Azo

– this is basically a prefix that is used to call compounds that contain two adjacent nitrogen atoms between carbon atoms. It also gives 12 points in Scrabble.

• Wiz

– alos spelled whiz, this word is used to define someone who is exceptionally good at something. If you’re a wiz in Scrabble, you’d always think of this word. It gives a quick 15 points.

• Zek

– providing 16 points, using this word is always a great idea, although it has rather morbid origins. Zek is used to call an inmate of a labor camp in the former USSR.

• Fez

– the texture of felt fabric is amazing, and so is 15 points in Scrabble. This is basically a red felt hat, usually worn by Muslim men with a black tassel on top.

• Zax

– this word may have been mentioned in the previous entries, but its use and importance cannot be stressed enough. It is used a tool used by slaters to cut, shape and trim slate. So, why is it important in Scrabble? It gives 19 points, making it the highest scoring three letter word.

Four letter Z words

There are a lot of four letter Z words in Scrabble, and most of which give a lot of points. If you’re clueless about them right now, don’t fret – most of them are not used in daily conversations. So, what are good examples of four letter words with Z? Here are some awesome examples:

• Dozy

  – although Scrabble may be dozy to some people, it’s really entertaining if you’re playing a highly competitive match and winning. Dozy gives a good 17 points and it is an adjective used to describe people who are drowsy and lazy.

• Hazy

  – giving you quick 19 points, the word hazy is defined as an area covered by haze or something that is vague and indistinct. Using this word won’t make your path to victory hazy.

• Quiz

  – we’ve always heard this word in primary school – a quiz is a test and it highly determines your grades. It may be irritating to most people, but it’s a boon to Scrabble players – it gives a good 22 points and way to get rid of the letter Q and Z at the same time.
