Salvaging the Scrabble Game

Playing Scrabble GameMost of the time, winners in Words With Friends and Scrabble try to keep their and their opponent’s scores as far as possible – some may even use a Freewordfinder to win. These games however, are rarely remembered – ones that are special are those that involve dramatic sequences and come from behind victories. That said,

Scrabble is like a chess game in many ways, although it is played with words and letter tiles, not knights, bishops and kings. A dramatic move may come from an uncommon word and ones that link together. Be wary of these and use them whenever possible.

“Tight situation” words

These words may not automatically make you win, but they can surely prolong the game and cause you to create more opportunities in future turns, especially if your rack is filled with vowels. So, here are some of which and their definitions:

  • Aerie – this word is defined as an eagle’s nest in a cliff or a high location, such as a mountain peak or a gigantic tree. Though it only has a base score of five points, it’s a great way to get rid of vowels and refresh your letter tile rack.
  • Zax – this word gives the highest possible base score for a three letter word at 19. If you put it on a bonus tile, watch your opponent’s eyes as an expression of utter dismay will be visible. Anyway, it is defined as a tool used to punch slate roofing tiles. It is also used by slate crafts man to cut and trim slate. It’s also a great way to get rid of power consonants.
  • Queue – like “aerie” it is also a great way to get rid of a pesky vowel-filled letter tile. It can refer to a braid of hair or a long line of people. It has a base score of 14 points and can potentially go higher if you can link some of the vowels with other words.

Uncommon, high-scoring words

There are over thousands of words that are valid in the game and most of them are not really used all that much. That said however, these have the potential to score more than 100 points, especially if you take advantage of the letter tiles. So, here are some of which along with their definitions and why using them in sticky situations is a must:

  • Muzjiks – this word was used to define peasants in the Russian monarchy, in the time of the tzars. This word can actually give you the highest opening play possible since you can 128 points, depending on where you place the tiles.
  • Caziques – used by Spanish conquistadors to call Indian chiefs in the 16th century, this word actually caused a Scrabble player to score the highest in a single turn at 392. And yes, you read that right and it is still unbroken until today.
  • Benzique – basically this is a card game that employs 64 cards. It has a base score of 27, and possibly even higher if you place it on bonus tiles.
  • Zymurgy – Probably the best word that you can use to get rid of vowels, it is the branch of chemistry which deals with the science of fermentation.
