Words with Friends: Be a Great Opponent

Using a Words with Friends cheat is acceptable nowadays, given that everybody does (especially if they’re losing) and it ups the ante of the game. Having said that, all Words with Friends players appreciate a competitive,  strategically sound and a down to wire game, especially since the prospect of having one is thrilling and is something a lot of players look forward to. However, this game isn’t all about fun and games: there are certain aspects that you need to bear in mind in order to be a great opponent. Here are some of which:

Words with Friends

Be respectful and courteous

Even the rules of war state that the opposing side be respectful and courteous, especially in the negotiating table – this applies in Words with Friends. Being a great player not only means being able to rack up the victories and have the ability to keep winning streaks running, but it also involves having the rare skill of respecting and being good to your opponent, even if you have no clue about who he is.

Be humble in victory, and gracious in defeat

Whenever you beat your opponent, regardless if it’s a route or a close one, never ever insult his ability, for it is the trademark of arrogance. Who knows, he might be able to beat you in your rematch, especially if he opts to do so. By being humble, you no longer damage your opponent’s ego. Instead of insults and jeers, the best thing you could do is congratulate him for the great game. The same applies in defeat: never insult your opponent to repair your ego. In other words, don’t be a sore loser and just accept that you lost.

Never bully your opponent

Let’s say that you and your opponent are quite vocal in the chat. Later on, you find out that he happened to be a 13 year old boy and is playing Words With Friends because he’s honing his anagramming skills. Regardless if you’re a full grown adult or just a few years his senior, never bully your opponent. Aside from hurting a child, you’re being a bad influence to him by displaying bad behavior. Also remember that by doing so, it is tantamount to cyber bullying.

Fight until the bitter end or ask to resign

If your opponent is getting the better of you, never falter and always put up a great fight. Words with Friends players love tenacious opponents, although some might find them really annoying. That said, fighting until the bitter end means that you’ve been taking the game seriously, despite being behind most of the time. Also remember that if you resign, you might be depriving your opponent a chance to create records or score his highest points ever. If the difference in abilities is just too much, make sure to ask your opponent that you will raise the white flag! Although some opponents don’t mind it if their opponents give up, given that the victory adds to their “won matches” tally, some can get completely annoyed with you, so make sure to ask beforehand!

Lastly, don’t get too chatty

Remember, Words with Friends is a game, not a chat room to meet your soul mate. Although some people that have met through the game have somehow gotten married, but the chances of it happening to you is rather low. That said, don’t get too comfortable with your opponents: they might get annoyed with you, especially if they are focusing on the game.
